This water butt was a birthday present from my mother. It is a slimline design to fit in a narrow gap and receives water from about half our roof space. The feed off the drain pipe is a simple but brilliant invention that fills the butt to the top then directs excess water back down the drain pipe. I use it mainly to keep the garden pond topped up. I may one day put in a pipeline to do this automatically but for the time being I fill a bucket and carry it across the lawn. Tap water is not good for ponds as it contains chemicals and nutients that encourage algal growth. Installation of the drain pipe diverter was a
much trickier task than it seemed on the instructions.
